Cliff Saies

It was with great sadness that everyone associated with Haverfordwest County AFC heard of the passing of its former Club Secretary, Cliff Saies.

Cliff was Secretary for 30 seasons and only relinquished his position in March 1998 because of deteriorating health. He was rewarded by the Club with its first Life Membership, and more recently honoured by the Football Association of Wales with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Cliff was able to attend the Bridge Meadow Stadium to be presented with his Award by former FAW President and Club President, Des Shanklin.

Cliff was involved with the transfer from the old Bridge Meadow in the early 1990s, the establishment of the all Wales Welsh Premier League, times when County won Welsh League Championships and relegations. He also served for a number of years on the Council of the Pembrokeshire League.

Cliff wrote every minute and letter in his immaculate handwriting, you never saw Cliff without a collar and tie, and he was liked and respected throughout the Welsh football world.

Cliff was a proper gentleman, never losing his cool in the often tempestuous world of competitive sport. He has been missed since 1998, and will be now leave a huge gap in the story of Haverfordwest County Football Club.

We all send our deepest sympathy to Dilys and family in their sad loss.
