The Welsh Football Trust has today officially announced that Haverfordwest County FC will host Wales’ crucial match against England in this year’s Sky Sports Victory Shield tournament.
The match will take place on Friday October 15th at 7.35pm, and will be a chance for Wales to put an end to England’s run of victory.
The Principality Welsh Premier League club, Haverfordwest, has never before hosted a Victory Shield match, but after support from the Welsh Grounds Improvement scheme, the New Meadow Stadium has undergone significant redevelopment work. Over the past three years the ground has received a total of £86,674 which, among other things, has included a new stand, floodlights, and emergency lighting.
Manager and Welsh Football Trust Technical Director Osian Roberts said: “The New Bridge Meadow Stadium is without doubt one of the best surfaces in Wales and we are indebted to the Chairman, Rob Summons, at Haverfordwest County Football Club for allowing us to play our key match versus England at their ground.
“Both England and ourselves are excellent technically so the pitch will suit us all and a hopefully a good crowd will come and support Wales in what should be an exciting match”.
Club Secretary , Barry Vaughan, said “This is a tremendous honour, and is a reward for all the hard work put in at the club by all the volunteers, and especially for the efforts in pitch maintenance put in by Rob. We look forward to hosting the game and are sure that it will be an enjoyable and entertaining experience for all who attend.”
The annual Victory Shield takes place between the Under-16 sides of Wales, England, Northern Ireland and Scotland. |
