Cardiff Corinthians 0-2 Haverfordwest County

Haverfordwest County overcame bottom of the table Cardiff Corinthians to pick up their first back-to-back wins for two seasons.
Last week Leighton James’ outfit beat champions Bryntirion, and this week, they gained three more precious points by winning in the capitol. Goals by Jonathan Kift and Nicky Woodrow secured the visitors’ fourth win of a difficult campaign.

The visitors got off to a dream start when they opened the scoring in the eighth minute. Woodrow controlled to set-up co-striker Kift,  the recently signed striker making no mistake at the near post.
The visitors played with a 3-5-2 formation with an impressive defensive display from Phil Cattlin alongside Gareth Elliott and Dale Griffiths, in a three-man rear guard.
Haverfordwest County goalkeeper Craig Morris pulled off a stunning save from a direct free-kick in the first half to keep the Corries at bay.
On the hour mark the visitors doubled their lead. Kift this time set-up Woodrow, the striker hitting low shot in the far corner to ease his side’s nerves.

Vastly experienced Andrew Mumford pulled the strings in the heart of midfield, plus Ricky Watts and Richard Lewis, both made an impressive return to the starting line-up. Substitutes Jay Brockway, Anton Owens and Alex Squires all made useful contributions when they came on. Late in the game Woodrow was unlucky not to add a third, after he was set-up by unselfish Brockway, his low-drilled drive cannoned off the post – but overall the Bluebirds will be pleased to maintain their winning ways.
The Bluebirds will be gunning for their third league win on the trot when they face Barry Town at the Conygar Bridge Meadow this Saturday, 29th October, and kick-off is at 2.30pm. The following Saturday, 5th November they have a home tie in the Welsh Cup also against Barry Town.

Haverfordwest County: Craig Morris; Gareth Elliott; Phil Cattlin; Dale Griffiths; Richard Lewis; Ricky Watts; Andrew Mumford; Owen Thomas; Gary Taylor; Nicky Woodrow; Jonathan Kift. Substitutes: Anton Owens (60’ R. Watts); Alex Squires (75’ O. Thomas); Jay Brockway (80’ J. Kift).
