Haverfordwest County 4-1 Port Talbot

A fine Nicky Woodrow hat-trick was the highlight of a fluent and emphatic win over a Port Talbot side which was in the top six in last season’s Welsh Premier.

Woodrow pounced first in the 18th minute to slide the ball in from 6 yards after a fine deep cross from left back David Evans, a Carmarthen-based player who has had a spell with Charlton Athletic. Woody’s second goal, in the 36th minute, was a ferocious blast of a shot from outside the penalty area.

The steady Bluebirds progress continued after half-time, and after Woodrow had completed his hat-trick, there was a well-poached goal from ex-Newcastle Emlyn winger Anton Owens, for his second goal of the season.

A late penalty for Port Talbot was not enough to take any shine at all off a good pre-season performance.

Meanwhile, on the lower pitch, a Bluebirds side composed of reserve and youth team players took on the Port Talbot youth side and had a good 2-1 win, with first half goals from ex-Herbrandston player AJ Galdo.

The first team was due to play a Cardiff City side on the Conygar Bridge Meadow on Tuesday, and play at home to Aberystwyth on Saturday 30th July, kick-off 2.30.
