This was a disappointing result in a tough Cup-tie in which both teams relied heavily on the long ball from the back. Goalkeeper Conah McFenton was neat and the Blues’ back four looked solid throughout, but the visitors, trying a strike partnership of Joe Leahy and Tim Hicks, made little headway against a strong Buds defence. The one real chance came on the stroke of half-time, when Steffan Williams, one of the Blues’ best players on the night, seized on a ball in the D of the penalty area and crashed his shot against the bar, from which it fell to Leahy, who drove the ball in, only to be ruled offside. The Buds’ winner which was scored in the 85th minute, came when sub Alaric Jones was dispossessed with what appeared to many to be a foul tackle, but, with the award not given, Buds’ attacker Scott Armitage was able to press forward and drive in.
