Sunday saw Haverfordwest 19s travel to Rhonnda valley to play Cambrian & Clydach in the 1st round of the Welsh Youth Cup.
After losing 8 players from last season, the Bluebirds are rebuilding and the starting line-up saw only Jake Proctor from last seasons squad.
A decent start from the Bluebirds saw them ride the early storm and have some good possesion, however a cross from a Cam winger saw it end up in Cory hills net.
To be fair it was against the run of play and it didnt take long before Bluebirds were back on level terms.
A great cross from Proctor saw Liam Davies glance a header into the far corner for 1-1.
10 mins before the interval and good work from Jordan Raymond, set Scott Griffiths to cross for Proctor to add a second with a cool finish form 6 yds.
The 2nd half started with a stalemate for 15 mins before Liam Fawcett to cross and Arron Johnson to drill home at the near post. 1-3.
On 65mins some indecision at the back allowed Cam striker to make it 2-3 and no sooner had the game restarted and Walters played in Fawcett to drive his shot in the top corner to make it 2-4.
With 10 mins to go it looked done and dusted however Cam pushed 4 up top and the Bluebirds struggled to contain them, first a scrappy goal and then with last kick of normal time, Hwest failed to clear only for Cam to scramble an equaliser.
Extra time saw Cam dominate as their tails were up both sides had decent chances to win bu with 1 min of the game left once again the Bluebirds failed to close down and Cam sub drilled a great shot into the bottom corner for a cruel end to the game. Davies went close at the death but Cam edged the game when it looked destined for pens.
Steve Batty was pleased with the spirited effort from his lads, " I am delighted with the teams performance, were a young team and were rebuilding but, weve got a good squad who are willing to learn. "
The Bluebirds travel to Carmarthen on Mon 3rd Oct for their 1st League encounter and we wish them well for the season! |
